If dance classes for older learners are to be inclusive, it is imperative that dance teachers are able to cater for the needs of learners who may otherwise not take part in dance classes because of on-going neurological conditions.
Led by Andrea Haley, this is a one day training course on facilitating dance with older people including those with limited mobility and / or dementia and is suitable for Dance Artists, Students of Dance or Creative Arts, Activity Co-ordinators, Care Staff and volunteers in dementia services. You don’t need to be a dancer to gain valuable insights and experience from this CPD day that will give you the confidence to lead a dance/movement session with older people..
The training will include;
Andrea Haley is a Dance Practitioner who specialises in facilitating dance with older people with limited mobility and/or dementia. She has delivered dance projects on both a national and local level.
Andrea is the Lead Dance Artist at Derby Royal Hospital where she delivers a dance programme across the older adult rehabilitation wards, head injury and end of life. She has delivered training days for a number of organisations including, Derbyshire NHS, York NHS, Nottingham City Arts and as part of the dance degree programme at the University of Derby.
She is also the Lead Dance Artist for the national Dance To Health programme Yorkshire and is a registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist.
The training day was both informative and fun giving plenty of advice as well as practical tasks. It opened my eyes to the range of possibilities available to practitioners who work with older people.
