Joanne Payne

Adult Tap Tutor

Jo started dancing at the age of 3 following a family tradition of attending dance classes. During her dance student career up to the age of 17 she studied and completed exams with the BBO and IDTA under the tap, ballet and modern dance branches.

At the age of 17 Jo opted to concentrate on her academic studies and was accepted to study Law at Sheffield Hallam University and continued on to take a further degree in Quantity Surveying.

Having advanced in her career, she returned to dancing as an adult and discovered Hype through attending Street Dance classes with a friend. This led to her also attending tap, jazz and ballet classes at Hype over the following years including taking part in annual shows and performances and taking BATD group medal examinations and RAD Grade 7 ballet.

During her time at Hype she joined the Chapeltown Amateur Operatics Society and gained parts in 4 different shows, also carrying out the assistant choreographer and dance captain role. This led to her taking the OCN qualification in Theatre Studies.

Jo was assistant teacher at Hype Dance for 7 years before gaining her first teaching qualification, helping in the BATD ballet, jazz and tap syllabus and choreographing for performances for both children and adults.

After many years of assisting as a dance teacher Jo finally obtained the IDTA Pre-Asscociate qualification in Tap Dance with the IDTA in December 2017. She currently teaches the adult tap classes at Hype Dance, and provides cover, when required for the IDTA Grade classes in the academy timetable.
